LVE: resource limits for every account
On a regular Linux server every site competes for the same resources. When a WordPress plugin gets stuck in a loop or a site is hit by a wave of bot traffic, the CPU goes to 100%, memory fills up and every other site responds slowly or not at all. For a hosting provider that means tickets, unhappy customers and hours spent hunting for the culprit.
LVE (Lightweight Virtual Environment) places each account in a kernel-controlled container with clear limits: how much CPU it can use, how much memory, how many concurrent processes and how much disk I/O. When an account hits its limit only that account slows down, and the rest of the server carries on as normal. The admin can see in the statistics who hit their limits and when, which makes troubleshooting far quicker. Limits can be set globally or per package, and customers who need more can be moved to a bigger plan instead of being allowed to affect everyone.
