What is a .eu domain?
The .eu domain is the official extension of the European Union, opened to the public in 2006. It is run by EURid, a non-profit organisation based in Belgium and appointed by the European Commission. A .eu address shows that your business is European and plays by single-market rules, which matters to customers who buy across several EU countries.
Unlike .com, .eu has eligibility rules: the owner must have a genuine link to the European Union or the European Economic Area. A company or person based in Romania meets the requirement automatically. We host the DNS zone for free with a record editor, and renewals are taken automatically from your prepaid account credit.
.eu is the country code extension of European Union.

Who a .eu domain suits
- Romanian companies selling in several EU countries
- Online shops shipping across the EU that want an address not tied to one country
- EU-funded projects and cross-border partnerships
- Organisations, associations and professional networks with members in several member states
- EU citizens who want a personal domain with a European identity
Registration rules for .eu
- Eligible: EU citizens (wherever they live), EU residents and organisations established in the EU, plus residents and organisations in Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway (EEA)
- Owners outside the EU/EEA are not eligible; after Brexit, UK residents lost the right to hold a .eu unless they are EU citizens
- Names are 2 to 63 characters long, using letters, digits and hyphens; EURid also accepts names with accents and scripts such as Cyrillic and Greek (IDN)
- EURid may check eligibility and can suspend or revoke domains registered with false details
Tips for choosing a .eu name
- Use .eu as the main address for a multi-country shop, with language folders (/ro, /de, /fr) for each market
- Register the .eu in your company's name with its EU address, so eligibility is clear at any check
- If you move outside the EU, keep the domain in the name of an eligible entity or you risk losing it
- Protect your brand on .eu even if you use .ro: the extension is popular for generic names and brands

Questions about .eu domains
Can I register a .eu domain from Romania?
Yes. Romania is an EU member state, so any company registered there, any resident and any Romanian citizen can hold a .eu. Contact details must be accurate, because EURid may check the owner's eligibility.
Can an EU citizen living outside the EU own a .eu?
Yes. Since 2019 EURid has allowed EU citizens to register a .eu regardless of where they live. A Romanian citizen living in the United Kingdom or the United States, for example, remains eligible on the basis of citizenship.
What happens if the owner is no longer eligible?
If the owner loses their link to the EU/EEA (for example a company relocates outside the Union), EURid can suspend and later revoke the domain. The fix is to move ownership to an eligible person or company before the change takes effect.
Does .eu help SEO?
Google treats .eu as a generic extension not tied to any single country, much like .com. That makes it a good fit for sites targeting several EU markets. Targeting each market is done with localised content and hreflang tags, not the extension.
How much does a .eu domain cost?
Registering a .eu domain costs €9.98 for the first year and €15.98 for each renewal, VAT excluded, paid from your account credit. There is no setup fee and DNS hosting is included.
For how long can I register a .eu domain?
You can register a .eu domain for 1 to 10 years at once. After that it renews automatically from your credit a month before expiry, and you get an email if your credit is short.
Can I transfer my .eu domain to cloudlinux.ro?
Yes. Transferring a .eu domain costs €14.98 and normally adds a year to its expiry. Unlock the domain at your current registrar, get the transfer code and start the transfer from the Domains section of your console.
Can I host a website on my .eu domain with you?
Yes. Launch a cloud server billed by the hour, pick a one-click app such as WordPress, Ghost or Nextcloud, and point your .eu domain to it from the DNS editor. The domain also works with any server you run elsewhere.
