How to install Apache Superset on a Cloud VPS
Updated 7/18/2026
Apache Superset is a modern data exploration and BI platform with rich visualizations and SQL tooling, at home on any data warehouse.
Self-hosted analytics means you own the data, GDPR compliance is straightforward and there are no event or visitor caps.
One-click install on cloudlinux.ro
The fastest way: Apache Superset installs automatically at the first boot of a new server.
- Create a Cloud VPS from the control panel.
- In the configuration step, pick Apache Superset from the app catalog.
- Start the server. The install runs in the background for a few minutes and its status shows on the server page.
- Access details and generated passwords are saved on the server in
/root/app-credentials.txt. The app will be available on port 8088.
Manual install on any Ubuntu server
If you prefer doing it yourself, below is the exact script our automatic install runs. Execute it as root on a fresh Ubuntu server (24.04 recommended). It stops at the first error, and when it finishes you will find the access details in /root/app-credentials.txt.
export DEBIAN_FRONTEND=noninteractive
curl -fsSL https://get.docker.com | sh
DB_PASS=$(openssl rand -base64 24 | tr -dc 'A-Za-z0-9' | cut -c1-20)
ADMIN_PASS=$(openssl rand -base64 24 | tr -dc 'A-Za-z0-9' | cut -c1-16)
SECRET_KEY=$(openssl rand -base64 42)
docker network create superset
docker volume create superset_db
docker volume create superset_home
docker run -d --name superset-db --restart=always --network superset \
-e POSTGRES_DB=superset -e POSTGRES_USER=superset -e POSTGRES_PASSWORD="$DB_PASS" \
-v superset_db:/var/lib/postgresql/data postgres:16
mkdir -p /opt/superset
cat > /opt/superset/superset_config.py <<EOF
SECRET_KEY = "${SECRET_KEY}"
SQLALCHEMY_DATABASE_URI = "postgresql+psycopg2://superset:${DB_PASS}@superset-db:5432/superset"
EOF
docker run -d --name superset --restart=always --network superset -p 8088:8088 \
-v /opt/superset/superset_config.py:/app/pythonpath/superset_config.py:ro \
-v superset_home:/app/superset_home apache/superset:latest
sleep 20
docker exec superset superset db upgrade
docker exec superset superset fab create-admin --username admin --firstname Admin --lastname User \
--email [email protected] --password "$ADMIN_PASS"
docker exec superset superset init
IP=$(hostname -I | awk '{print $1}')
printf 'Apache Superset: http://%s:8088\nUtilizator: admin\nParola: %s\n' "$IP" "$ADMIN_PASS" > /root/app-credentials.txt
You can also save this script as a recipe in your account and reuse it on any new server.
